SAIC's George Otchere Honored with Washington Business Journal Minority Business Leader Award
--Executive Honored for Valuable Contributions to Minority Business Development
SAN DIEGO and MCLEAN, Va., April 1, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE: SAI) today announced that George Otchere, SAIC senior vice president for corporate development and director of small business development, has been awarded the Washington Business Journal's prestigious Minority Business Leader Award for his valuable contributions to minority business development.
The awards, recognizing the top minority business owners and leaders in the Washington region, will be presented at the second annual Minority Business Leader Awards program April 2 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, D.C.
Otchere oversees SAIC's business development activities with small businesses, including efforts with minority- and women-owned businesses. He also manages SAIC's mentor-protege, veteran-owned business, historically underutilized business zones (HUBZones), and historically black colleges/universities (HBCUs) and minority institutions (MIs) programs.
Otchere led the development of a no-cost training program for both HBCU/MIs and new minority-owned small businesses to increase minority participation in government contracting. SAIC also instituted a scholarship and internship program for HBCU/MI students aimed at increasing the number of minority engineers in science and engineering fields.
Under Otchere's leadership, SAIC has won numerous mentor-protege awards for excellence in mentoring small businesses from the Department of Defense, Department of Energy and NASA.
